A warm welcome to St Mary’s College.

I am so pleased you have decided to enrol and make the most of your opportunities beyond high school. St Mary's has an outstanding reputation for high quality education set within a friendly and supportive environment. As a student at SMC, you have a wide range of excellent educational courses. I hope you quickly settle in to your programme of study but if you have any concerns about the course(s) you have chosen please speak to your Personal Tutor who will discuss suitable alternatives with you. We are committed to enabling you to develop academically, spiritually and personally in your education. Take time to find out about all the many activities open to you to enrich your studies from tailor made work experience placements to competitive sports on a Wednesday afternoon. Finally, congratulations on becoming a St Mary's College student!

Tradition. In joining our college in September 2014, you have become part of a long established academic community. Though our buildings and facilities are incredibly modern and up-to-date, we have been educating generations of East Lancashire students since 1925. Not only that, you will become part of a world-wide Marist community, a member of an international network of schools and colleges spanning the globe.
Success. In becoming a St Mary’s student, you will be joining a highly successful, high achieving academic community. It is not just me who says so! We are a government approved Beacon College. Our College Theme for 2013/2016  is “Excellence In Learning”. St Mary’s students regularly achieve 99% A Level and 100% vocational diploma pass rates. Every year, our students celebrate their achievements at Christmas at our annual prize giving event at King George’s Hall in the centre of Blackburn. Prizes are awarded for achievements in A and AS level examinations, in Vocational Diplomas and Certificates and in our unique university Degree and Essential Skills programmes.
Support. At SMC, you will receive outstanding support whether aspiring to an Oxbridge place or re-sitting a GCSE course. Our pastoral and tutorial system provides a solid network of information, advice and guidance at every level, ably assisted by our and careers and guidance staff.

Progression. Living and learning at St Mary’s College is a wonderful experience in itself. It is also an excellent preparation for progression to higher education. The intensive help and thorough guidance that SMC students receive in the process of application to university and further study, is outstanding. Our students aspire to and achieve places in the highest seats of learning in the country.
Facilities. St Mary’s is a purpose built sixth form college. After a few weeks, I hope you will agree that the facilities are excellent. They include a newly refurbished student-friendly refectory with three purpose built social areas, FREE Wifi throughout the campus, I.T. access in all classrooms, new Performing Arts, Enterprise and Business and Science buildings, in addition to completely refurbished Creative Arts, I.C.T, Computing and Mathematics learning resource areas. St Mary’s facilities will help you grow and mature as a sixth form student.
Enrichment. St Mary’s enrichment programme will enable you to widen your college experience with a wide range of activities. Sport: join one of our immensely successful competitive teams or just for fun. Music: our choirs and music ensembles perform through the year. Drama and Dance: students showcase their talents on numerous occasions throughout the year entertaining parents, friends and the local community.
Congratulations to you all in choosing St Mary’s College and I look forward to meeting you during the next few weeks.
